Reishi is a fungi that grows on the sides of hardwood trees in forests of many different parts of the world. Reishi mushroom has been used for centuries in traditional Asian cultures for many different purposes. In ancient Asia, this mushroom was revered as the «mushroom of immortality». The Chinese name, Ling Zhi, means “herb of spiritual potency”.

With the rising impact of stress and chemicals, autoimmune conditions are becoming more prevalent in our modern day world. Immune disfunction and inflammation in the body play a central role in the onset of autoimmune disease. New studies have determined that several mushrooms can bring balance back to an impacted immune system. Researchers have identified that the polysaccharides in Reishi mushrooms contain anti-inflammatory agents. Chronic inflammation in the body can lead to auto immune disease.
One animal study on Lupus demonstrated that Reishi extract supplementation caused a decrease in autoantibodies and improvements in Lupus symptoms. Immune markers improved after a Reishi supplementation regimen was implemented.
Another study suggests that a protein found in Reishi called Ling Zhi-8 may have positive suppressive effects on auto-immunity by reducing TNF-alpha and destructive antibodies.
Many patients with auto immune disease experience depression and fatigue. A study conducted in China on 48 patients determined that supplementation with Reishi reduced fatigue symptoms and improved quality of life. A study on depression found that a compound in Reishi blocks the pathway in the brain that causes depression.
Modern scientific research has identified two important components in Reishi mushroom:
The first is Beta-glucans. Beta-glucans are polysaccharides that occur naturally in the cell walls of functional mushrooms, such as Reishi. Researchers have determined that Beta-glucans have an immunomodulatory effect on the body, which means they increase or decrease immune function depending on the needs of the body. These polysaccharides have been shown in studies to help balance the immune system.
The second medicinal component is Triterpenes. Reishi is the only known source of a group of triterpenes, which have a similar molecular structure to steroid hormones. Triterpenes are precursors for steroids, which are nature’s anti-inflammatory agents.* Triterpenes have been shown in studies to support liver function, blood pressure, and circulation.
Consuming Reishi extract can help improve nutrient absorption in the body.* Results from a small clinical trial indicate that Reishi intake causes an acute increase in plasma antioxidant capacity. High intakes of dietary total antioxidant capacity have been related to numerous health benefits in both cross-sectional and randomized intervention studies, such as reduced DNA damage.
Our Hongo Reishi formula is formulated by scientists, and contains pure Ganoderma Lucidum and 10 percent polysaccharides. We use non-GMO ingredients without artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.
